Er is een stille revolutie gaande. Centraal staat een jonge generatie wijnmakers. Je vindt ze in Frankrijk, Italie, Spanje en ook in Duitsland. Afgelopen voorjaar (2018) slenterden we op de laatste dag van de Prowein door de Duitse hal en plots wees Martine ons op de bescheiden ‘stand’ van Juwel Weine. Martine had ze voorbij zien komen op de social media. We gingen proeven en luisteren en waren direct verkocht. Heerlijke frisse, droge Duitse wijnen van een geweldig gepassioneerd team.

Juwel Weine

Juwel Weine is een familiebedrijf uit Rheinhessen (Duitsland) dat is opgericht in 1984. Direct na haar studie in Geisenheim in 2013, zei Juliane (toen 21 jaar) tegen haar ouders dat ze vond dat het helemaal anders moest. Ze overtuigde hen van haar visie en sindsdien heeft ze de volledige steun van de familie. Juliane is verantwoordelijk voor de kelder en zus Katharina doet de marketing. Samen zetten ze de traditie van hun ouders voort en voegen er hun eigen visie aan toe. Pure droge wijnen om dagelijks van te genieten. Met een focus op vijf druiven: Riesling, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Sylvaner en Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Daarnaast heeft Juliane besloten om volledig met de hand te oogsten en is in transitie naar volledig Biologisch. Jaarlijks maakt ze ca. 60.000 fles die altijd uitverkopen.

“In July 2013, when I got the possibility to follow in my parents ́footsteps, I took the following descision: I would like to produce unique wines- because just these ones are nonreversible in their type and character! Wines which are created uncompromising and which distinctively show their origin. Ever since my childhood, I grew up with viticulture and I helped whenever something was to do in my parent’s winery. „I ́m getting a winemaker“ I said – young, determined and open minded for changes. Pivotal for this decision was my internship at winery Keller in Flörsheim-Dalsheim. They showed me how to love every single activity that belongs to the job of a winegrower. This is how I found my passion for the profession of a winemaker – all in all it was a very impressive time. Therefore, I decided to start my studies in viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim.

After my successful graduation in summer 2013 – my first vintage in my family winery was waiting for me. The foundation for my first vintage included hard and dainty work outside in the vineyard. With many little steps of handwork – achieving the perfect ripeness from each grape, that ́s one of my aims. In the cellar you only navigate in the right direction and just observe, because everything which is failed outside in the vineyard can not be recovered anymore. At the moment, I manage the winery together with my parents. The confidence, the openness, the long-lasting experience and the common goal we share is the perfect base for our daily teamwork.”
